      Current Events - week of September 17

Sunday School:  Today we have Sunday School!  We are meeting today in the Parish Hall. Children ages 3 and up are invited to attend. Classes began at 10:00 a.m. and will end at 11:15 a.m. at which time the children will be dismissed into worship.

Special Guest and Presentation Today:  Sunday, September 17, our congregation will have a special presentation and luncheon with guest Elvis Garcia from Luther Immigration and Refugee Services.  He will attend our luncheon and he will later speak at 2:00 p.m. on his experience as a child growing up undocumented.  A $500 Mission Endowment Grant for Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services will be presented to Mr. Garcia at this event.  All welcomed.

"Martin Luther:  The Idea that Changed the World":  You are invited to a special screening of this movie hosted by the Hudson Conference of the Metropolitan New York Synod.  Join us at Regal Cinemas Hudson Valley Mall 12 on Wednesday, October 11 at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets must be purchased on-line and in advance by October 3rd.  www.tugg.com/events/martin-luther-the-idea-that-changed-the-world-geml

Healthy Congregations Part 2:  continuing Saturday, October 7th, Healthy Congregations is offering a series of six ecumenical workshops, each scheduled approximately four to six months apart.  The next workshop will be held at King of Kings Lutheran Church 543 Union Ave. New Windsor, NY  (845) 565-7645.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner:  A Stone Pony Chicken BBQ fund-raiser is scheduled for Sunday, October 8.  This fund-raiser will support Christ's Lutheran Church which supports our congregation as well as many community organizations who use our space for meetings and fellowship.  You will receive a packet with information, a tally sheet as well as 10 tickets to sell.  The price remains at $14 per dinner.  Deadline for selling tickets is Sunday, October 1.  Checks to be made out to Christ's Lutheran Church with BBQ Dinner in memo space.  Dinners may also be purchased via our 
NY Charities account.  Again we in contact with the "Meals on Wheels" program.  Those who wish to purchase a chicken dinner for "Meals on Wheels" clients may do so at a the reduced price of $10.  The menu is 1/2 chicken, roll with butter, cole slaw, baked potato, and brownie.  Thank you for helping us with this winner fund-raiser.

Commemorative Eucharist and Festive Reception:  Christians across the globe will commemorate the 500th anniversary of the start of the Protestant Reformation this fall.  In the Metropolitan NY Synod, we are looking to the next 500 years and how we will move into a new reformation with faith not fear.    Please join us as we mark this historic moment:  November 1st at Cathedral of Saint John the Divine 1047 Amsterdam Ave. NY at 5:30p.m.  RSVP:mnys.org/November 1

Adam's Cards:  Available upon request.  This new approach will allow us to have Adam's cards on a more steady basis.  See David Adler to purchase Adam's cards.

Just a Reminder:  If you wish to have a comfortable temperature during your meetings, please contact David Adler at 679-5328.  He will program the thermostats to provide heat for your meeting. 

Snow Cancellation Policy: Christ's Lutheran Church activities are canceled whenever Onteora Schools close  for bad weather. Worship cancellation due to bad weather: call church council president.

Office Hours: The office will be open on Thursdays, 12:30 until 3:00.
